This book on the five-day autumnal festival of Bengal which is an unparalleled celebration of mass public festivity is a great endeavour to understand how it all began. I am happy that Mr.Subhadip Roy Chowdhury has painstakingly traced the evolution of Durga Puja of the seven traditional Bonedi houses of Calcutta. Bonedi Kolkata Durgotsava is a laudable effort to understand and chronicle a social, cultural and religious event that has gripped the imagination of every Bengali, no matter in which part of the world they live. It will be a worthwhile addition in my library. — Shahanshah Mirza (Great Great Grandson of king Wajid Ali Shah)
